The work at Bon-Repos

The works move forward to Bon-Repos. A locotractor is there already operational and made its first tours of wheels as train of works for the pose of the way of sixty in the direction of Wall of Brittany. The project of departure grew rich of a new option which will connect the station with the starting point of the hiking trail towards Wall of Brittany. Eventually(later) she will allow to circulate on two ways among which the one will overhang the station in a train with way of sixty.
The other component of the project is to be able to make run a train to run between Bon-Repos and Gouarec. For now, we have at our disposal the halt of Bon-Repos and four kilometers of trackbed. The gauge chosen for the railway is the same one as that was used for the Reseau Breton, namely one metre. The project is a very large one, because, with the exception of the station buildings, there is little remaining. It is therefore necessary to rebuild the railway, to restore rolling stock and to design and construct the covered accomodation that will be required. In Gouarec, (actually at the edge of Laniscat), the association has been given the use of a hangar, where we currently store part of the material. Very soon however, we began to think about developing this into a workshop for the restoration of rolling stock....

The station of Bon-Repos shown as it was found when we took over our first work site. Time there as a railway station stopped in 1967, then in 1971 it was converted into private house. But it is fortunate for us that few changes were made and it has kept its original personality.

A little later the temperature went up!

The first work consisted of clearing the undergrowth on the approach to the station and the platform.

Then we created an access to the wooden transfer shed so it can shelter the shunting locomotive.

A few (!) cubic meters of concrete were necessary to consolidate the base of the shed.

Dans la joie et la bonne humeur!

The work is carried out in very good humour!

A big symbolic step, the installation of the first rail!

While waiting to drive the shunting engine, James has to make do with a dumper!

The revised choice of metre gauge, made us re-examine the access to the shed that had been initially constructed for the two 60cm gauge tracks.

Travaux du trente mars.Préparation de la plateforme.

The work carried out on 30 March. Ballasted the trackbead ready for sleepers and rails.

A big change at Bon-Repos, where the sleeping station wakes up and finds the rails are back! Panels of track from the Vivarais are unloaded.

Ah! the key to shaping the spare tire! Screwing in dozens of track screws is good for the waistine for men and ladies... Some of the sleepers needed to be replaced,,,,,then re-screwed in place. Sometimes it takes two to do it!!!!

The team has put in placed the first metres of the future railway, and Bon-Repos now awaits its first train!

Still a bit (????) of ballast and it is operational!

And at last, THE day has arrived! And the Swiss coach from the BAM (Bière–Apples–Morges) railway is now here. It remains only to put it firmly in touch with Brittany. That takes over three hours from truck to rail...in pouring rain
